Sheet 03

Data  destruction  in  Melbourne,  with  proof.

Certified hard drive and data destruction, with compliant eWaste recycling, by the same team that installs the systems. Every asset is tagged at intake and every movement is logged under a batch ID.

Indicative exploded view · not to scale L-01–02 overwrite · L-03 physical destruction · R-01 register
Three levels, matched to three risk profiles — from general business disposal through to end-of-life assets carrying highly sensitive data. Levels 2 and 3 each produce a certificate you can hand to an auditor.

L-00

Three  levels.

Read across the rows to compare. The right level is the lowest one that satisfies your obligation — we will say so if you are over-specifying.

L-01

Basic wipe

Use case
Low-risk data. Devices being reused, resold or donated.
Method
Single-pass overwrite of all addressable sectors.
Verification
Basic verification of cleared areas.
Device after
Fully operational and reusable.
Certificate
Optional.
L-02

Certified secure wipe

Use case
Regulated environments. Financial, medical or customer data.
Method
Multi-pass overwrite using approved algorithms.
Verification
Full-sector validation after each pass, checksum confirmed.
Device after
Fully functional post-process.
Certificate
Standard, with method and pass count noted.
L-03

Physical destruction

Use case
Highly sensitive or high-security information. End-of-life assets.
Method
Shredding, crushing or degaussing. Platters and flash removed.
Verification
Media logging and photographic verification available.
Device after
Destroyed. Not recoverable or reusable.
Certificate
Standard, with serial and model recorded.
R-00

What  you  actually  receive.

A destruction service is only worth what its paperwork proves. This is the certificate, and it is issued as standard on Level 2 and Level 3. What each field is there to prove is set out in what a data destruction certificate should record.

R-01 Asset & serial register
Every device logged by model and serial, issued as CSV or PDF.
R-02 Destruction certificates
Per device or per batch, recording method, pass count and verification.
R-03 Chain-of-custody record
Technician, transport and facility, each movement logged under the batch ID.
R-04 eWaste disposition summary
Counts and weights, with commodity breakdown and transport dockets where available.

Specimen only. Values shown are illustrative; a live certificate records the actual device, serial and method.
P-00

Chain  of  custody.

Every movement is logged under a batch ID by licensed Gentex personnel. Sealed containers, tamper-evident tags and secure transport are available on request.

  1. 01

    Intake & identification

Client, site, date, item type, model and serial recorded. Each asset tagged and assigned a batch ID and a handling technician.

  2. 02

    Risk segregation

Data-bearing media separated — HDD, SSD, NVMe, MMC, SD, DVR disks, phone storage. High-sensitivity items isolated for Level 3.

  3. 03

    Destruction

Wipe or physical destruction performed to the agreed level. Method, pass count and verification result documented per device.

  4. 04

    Decommissioning

Batteries and lamps removed. Boards, drives, plastics and metals separated and prepared for their material streams.

  5. 05

    Certified recycling

Consolidated by commodity and dispatched only to vetted, certified downstream recyclers. Weight tickets retained.

  6. 06

    Reporting

Asset register with serials, destruction certificates, chain-of-custody record and eWaste disposition summary.

E-00

eWaste  scope.

Batteries are removed, insulated and sent to licensed recyclers. Proof of transfer is retained in the job file.

  • UPS units & rack power

Not accepted without prior approval

  • Hazardous liquids or chemicals
  • Asbestos-containing items
  • Biological or medical waste

Q-00

Questions  we  get  asked.

The questions a compliance manager asks, answered with what is actually recorded.

Which level do we actually need?

The lowest one that satisfies your obligation. Devices being resold or donated with ordinary business data on them are a Level 1 job. Regulated data — financial, medical, customer records — is Level 2, because that is the level that produces a certificate recording the method and the pass count. Level 3 is for highly sensitive information and for assets you never want to see functioning again. If you tell us what was on the drive and who you answer to, we will tell you which level applies, including when it is a lower one than you expected.

Can we witness the destruction?

Yes, by arrangement. For Level 3 we can also provide media logging and photographic verification as part of the job file, which is usually what an auditor is actually after.

What does the certificate record?

The device, its model and serial, the method used, the pass count and verification result for a wipe or the physical method for a destruction, the date, and the technician. It is tied to the specific drive it describes, which is the point — a certificate that only names a batch cannot answer a question about one machine.

How do you handle chain of custody in transit?

Assets are logged and tagged at collection and assigned a batch ID and a handling technician. Every movement is recorded against that batch. Sealed containers, tamper-evident tags and secure facility-to-facility transport are available on request where the material warrants it.

Do you take non-IT equipment?

Some. Computers, servers, network hardware, recorders, access control panels, phones, monitors, printers, peripherals and UPS units are all in scope. Hazardous liquids, asbestos-containing items, biological waste, pressurised cylinders and general whitegoods are not, unless it has been agreed in advance. If you are unsure, send a photo — it is faster than reading a list.

What happens to the material afterwards?

It is separated by commodity — steel, aluminium, copper, plastics, boards, glass — and dispatched only to vetted, certified downstream recyclers. Batteries are removed, insulated and sent to licensed handlers separately. Weight tickets and recovery reports are retained in the job file where the recycler provides them.
